Crit Hit Tabletop Gaming Events Code of Conduct

Introduction

Welcome to Crit Hit! We’re dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for everyone—whether you're attending in person, engaging online, or connecting through social media. This Code of Conduct applies to all Crit Hit-hosted events, including our digital spaces. We kindly ask everyone to contribute to a respectful and harassment-free experience for all.

1. Unacceptable Behavior

At Crit Hit, we believe in treating everyone with respect and kindness. Here’s what that means:

  • Harassment and Discrimination: We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or exclusion based on race, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, body size, religion, age, or any other protected characteristic.

  • Sexual Harassment: Unwanted sexual attention, such as inappropriate comments, touching, or advances, is not acceptable. This includes but is not limited to inappropriate images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, and unwanted photography or recording.

  • Violence and Threats: Physical violence, threats, and intimidation are grounds for immediate removal. If necessary, we will involve law enforcement.

  • Hate Speech and Symbols: Hate symbols or speech that promotes hatred or violence against individuals or groups have no place at Crit Hit.

  • Inappropriate Content: Please avoid sharing or displaying sexually explicit, graphically violent, or otherwise inappropriate content (e.g., costumes, artwork, literature) in any event-related spaces, including on social media associated with Crit Hit.

  • Disruptive Behavior: Disruptions during events, panels, or games—including excessive noise, yelling, or any behavior that detracts from others' enjoyment—are not allowed.

  • Alcohol and Substance Use: While enjoying alcohol in designated areas is fine, please ensure that your behavior remains respectful and does not affect others' enjoyment or safety. Excessive impairment will lead to removal.

2. Privacy and Consent

We value everyone’s personal space and privacy:

  • Consent for Physical Interaction: Always ask for permission before initiating physical contact, whether it’s a hug, handshake, or touching someone’s personal belongings. Respecting boundaries is important to maintaining a comfortable environment.

  • Photography and Recording: Please respect others' privacy when taking photos or recording videos. Always get explicit permission before photographing or recording attendees, staff, or volunteers, especially in sensitive areas like restrooms or quiet zones such as our Short Rest areas.

  • Online Privacy: When participating in our online spaces, please do not share personal information without consent. This includes avoiding actions like doxxing or revealing someone’s location, contact details, or other sensitive information.

3. Accessibility and Inclusivity

We’re committed to making Crit Hit a welcoming space for everyone:

  • Accessibility: If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance. We’re here to make sure everyone can fully enjoy the event. This includes ensuring that our venues, content, and materials are accessible to individuals with different abilities.

We take this Code of Conduct seriously and have a clear process for addressing violations:

  • Graduated Enforcement:
    • Verbal Warning: For minor infractions, a friendly reminder may be given.
    • Temporary Removal: Continued or serious issues may result in temporary removal from certain activities or areas.
    • Event Expulsion: Severe or repeated violations could lead to permanent expulsion from the event without a refund.
    • Involvement of Authorities: In cases involving serious issues like sexual harassment, assault, or violence, we may contact law enforcement.
    • Right to Eject: Crit Hit reserves the right to remove anyone from the event at any time if needed, especially for violations of this Code of Conduct.

5. Reporting Violations

  1. Reporting Violations

Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. If you experience or witness any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please follow these guidelines:

  • Immediate Safety: If you find yourself in a situation where you feel unsafe or threatened, your first priority should be your physical safety. If necessary, move to a safe location immediately. Locate the nearest Crit Hit staff member or volunteer for assistance. If the situation is serious—such as physical violence or a credible threat—do not hesitate to contact local authorities (e.g., dialing 911) before reporting the incident to us. Your safety is the most important concern.

  • Discreet Reporting: If you are the target of harassment but do not want to draw attention to yourself, especially during a game or other activity, here are some best practices:

    • Quietly Excuse Yourself: If possible, calmly and quietly excuse yourself from the situation. You can take a break, step outside, or visit a nearby restroom.
    • Use a Buddy System: If you're with friends, discreetly signal to them that you need support or an escort to a safe location.
    • Text or Message for Help: If you have access to a phone or device, consider texting or messaging a friend, family member, or even a Crit Hit staff member for assistance without making a public scene.
    • Wait for a Natural Break: If you prefer to avoid interruption, wait for a natural break in the activity (such as the end of a game round) before quietly seeking assistance.
    • Report Later: If you are unable to report the incident immediately without attracting attention, please do so at your earliest opportunity when you feel safe.
  • How to Report: You can report issues to any Crit Hit staff member or volunteer in person. We also provide options for anonymous reporting or through our online reporting system on our website and in CONGEON. All reports are taken seriously, and we will act accordingly.

  • Protection from Retaliation: We are committed to ensuring that no one faces retaliation for reporting a violation. We handle all reports with discretion and care and will protect your identity as much as possible.

6. Final Notes

We’re always looking to improve and make Crit Hit the best it can be:

  • Commitment to Improvement: We’re committed to continuously improving our policies and practices. Your feedback and suggestions are welcome as we work together to create the safest and most inclusive environment possible. Feel free to submit feedback or suggestions through our website.

  • Consequence of Violations: Please remember that violating this Code of Conduct can result in expulsion from the event without a refund and could lead to a ban from future Crit Hit events.

7. Acknowledgment

By attending Crit Hit, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us create a positive experience for everyone.

🛡️Crit Hit Community Standards 🛡️

Our goal is to treat everyone with respect and dignity and to speak up when we see behavior that could harm our community. We believe GAMING IS FOR EVERYONE. Crit Hit's goal is to create a sense of belonging in the Arizona gaming community and growing it into a space that is always inviting and welcoming. These community standards outline our basic goals and baseline for behavior.

1. Inclusiveness and Respect

  • Respect Everyone’s Identity: We believe in treating everyone with respect and dignity. This includes respecting each person’s pronouns, gender identity, race, religion, romantic situation/preference, neural or physical situations. . If you’re unsure, just ask politely. For details on behaviors that aren't acceptable, please refer to our Code of Conduct.
  • Inclusive Language and Behavior: Use language that welcomes and includes everyone. Avoid terms or actions that could make others feel unwelcome. We’re committed to making Crit Hit a safe space for all, including LGBTQ+ individuals, differently-abled individuals, people of color, women, people with diverse relationship orientations and statuses (such as asexual, non-monogamous, polyamorous, and other relationship styles), and other marginalized groups. The Code of Conduct provides more information on what behaviors are not allowed.
  • Enthusiastic Consent: We will ensure we have enthusiastic consent before physically or engaging with another person. We will also ensure we are mindful of non verbal queues(reading body language, looking away, not responding to your conversations, as well as verbal queues (listening to responses, indications they want to disengage with the conversation and leave, etc.) when speaking to someone. Remember, nobody owes anyone any conversation, especially if they don't know you. A person being someone you find attractive in a public place is not consent for unwanted advances.

2. Welcoming New Participants

  • Helping New Players Feel Welcome: If a new player wants to join, take a moment to integrate them into your game or guide them to another one. Let’s make sure everyone feels included, no matter their experience level. If someone walks up, and it is not disruptive to the game or other activity, say hi! Walking into an area with strangers can be intimidating and being that friendly voice can open the door to new friendships.

3. Addressing Offensive Behavior

  • Address Issues with Care: If someone’s words or actions are offensive, speak up calmly and let them know. We all make mistakes, and it’s important to give each other the chance to learn and grow. If needed, refer to our Code of Conduct for guidance on how serious matters are handled.
  • Support and Education: We understand that it is not the job of marginalized groups to educate others, and we will encourage continuing education on issues related to our community members' identities.

4. Encouraging Positive Engagement

  • Respect Different Gaming Preferences: Everyone has their own gaming tastes, and that’s something we celebrate! Whether it’s a board game, RPG, or card game, let’s respect each other’s choices. For a clear understanding of what’s not acceptable, please see our Code of Conduct.
  • Be Active in the Community: Engage with our local gaming scene—support Friendly Local Game Stores, attend other conventions, and invite friends to join games. Building a strong community is something we do together.

5. Responsible Substance Use

  • Substance Use Guidelines: Enjoy alcohol and marijuana responsibly in designated areas, following venue rules and any local ordnances and/or laws. Respect the comfort levels of others, and if you’re not sure what’s okay, check our Code of Conduct for more details.

6. Accessibility and Inclusion

  • Commitment to Accessibility: We’re dedicated to making Crit Hit accessible to everyone, including differently-abled attendees. If you need any accommodations, just let us know, and we’ll do our best to help.
  • Ongoing Inclusivity: We encourage everyone to keep learning about issues that affect our community members. Respect, understanding and grace are key to the foundations of the inclusive environment we want to build.

7. Reporting and Enforcement

  • Know the Process: If something goes against these Community Standards or our Code of Conduct, remember that there’s a clear process in place for reporting and enforcement. The details are in our Code of Conduct, which is here to protect and support our community.

Conclusion

By following these Community Standards, we can ensure Crit Hit remains a welcoming, positive, and inclusive space for everyone.

We are all Crit Hit.

🧸Policy on minors at Crit Hit events 🧸

Crit Hit welcomes all gamers, of all ages! However, while we want to support families gaming together and bringing the younger generations into the hobby, Crit Hit cannot and does not accept in loco parentis responsibility for any minors. In addition, some games are 17+ due to the mature content of the game. This includes NSFW board games and party games, and RPGs the GM has listed as 17+ only.

🐕‍🦺Service Animal Policy 🐕‍🦺

Since we are huge animal lovers anyway, we try our best to work with hotels that are pet friendly for the Crit Hit convention. Please check with the venue on their rules regarding pets and service animals. Crit Hit always work to meet the standards outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with service animals and any other related issue
