Game: Dungeon World

From the publisher: Classic Fantasy Adventure. Explore a land of magic and danger in the roles of adventurers searching for fame, gold, and glory. Delve into goblin holes or chance a dragon’s lair. Dungeon World takes classic fantasy and approaches it with new rules.

Dungeon World’s simple rules happen based on what’s happening within the game, so you spend more time talking about the action and less time talking about the rules.

Running a game shouldn’t be a pain. Dungeon World gives the GM all the tools to run a game quickly and easily. Fronts help you keep the world around the players living and evolving. Moves are ways to drive your game forward. And your Agenda keeps you on track.

The rules always drive the action forward in unexpected ways. Rolling the dice always leads to an interesting outcome.

Dungeon World has won an Ennie for Best Rules, a Golden Geek for Best RPG, and an Indie RPG Award.

What makes it awesome:

Dungeon World is a Powered by the Apocalypse game, which is an simple system that uses a 2d6 + Stat for resolution which is quick and easy; a 6 or under fails, 7-9 you succeed with a cost, and with a 10+ you succeed usually with and advantage. The game is narrative focused, meaning you won’t ever really have to open up the rule book once you get started playing. The game is meant to evoke the feeling and spirit of old school editions Dungeons and Dragaons.  Dungeon World really allows you to focus on cinematic gameplay, while highlighting what makes each class unique via a set of specialized moves. As with all PBTA games, describing how and what you are doing is key, as you are not shakeled by number of moves per turn or initiative, gameplay flows quickly.
